 Also, let me be real - 
they reassure me about my position, but I do hope I don't get laid off.  buying a house doesn't really make a difference for that (because the mortgage amount will be the same and some expenses will be lower), and we're not pulling out of savings to make a downpayment, and in fact I'll be in a better range for commutable things, but i would very prefer not to be in a new house and unemployed.

Actual likelihood of me being laid off or fired continues to decrease, but i'll feel a lot better once may hits and we have the new contracts.
