I got my other "cool art" on the wall today. It's from Etsy; it's an inexpensive, smallish, but dramatic print of Cleveland landmarks.
It's a conversation starter, because if anyone wants to ask about it, i will not be likely to shut up anytime soon. Par example:
the Free stamp: the public has mixed feelings about it, because it's a giant rubber stamp that says "free" so it's kind of ugly but the concept is interesting, and have I seen it thousands of times from the years I worked downtown? yes.
Severance Hall: the orchestra space that's miles away from downtown but is acoustically perfect and feelsl ike being inside an oyster.
"Fountain of Eternal Life" is a statue/fountain my dad always loved and thought it had to do with victory. Interestingly it has to do with peace triumphing over war.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame & Museum (where I worked for a year or two)
Goodtime III (a party cruiseship on lake erie) (When i was in elementary school I didn't get to go on the Goodtime II field trip because I had chickenpox)
a Guardian of Traffic (for which the baseball team was named). These art-deco guys are 93 feet tall and watch over the bridge. They were prominent characters in a b-list book I read.
Soldiers & Sailors monument: ok, best I have on this one is: it is large, and i saw it every day for years, and then I learned you can go inside it and it's beautiful
Terminal Tower: worked in this building for years including a brief stint as a temp. it embraces public square, has a Ritz attached to it and a subway terminal in the basement. Used to be a ritzy mall, the lobby was built in Beaux-Arts style. Multiple performing fountains. Now has an observatory open to the public. It's 52 stories!
Key tower: (former the society bldg) Even Taller than the terminal, 57 stories. Dan climbed both in some annual stair-climbing race. REALLY quickly!
There are other buildings and bridges in this thing I can name that aren't as biographical, like the courthouse (dan had jury duty there once) and the galleria building, and the building my dad worked in, one might be the university tower at CSU. Can't tell for sure on these last 2 though.
So. I like having it on my wall. Thank you for being on this journey with me!
