yesterday I was mentally exhausted and forgetting things and then daughter asked us to attend open house. So we did. Exhaustion was making my brain short circuit with 'did i say the right thing' 'are they talking about me when i leave the room' crap, but I do have interesting observations to write about:
- Some of the teachers mentioned she really doesn't even wear her headphones in class, and she's participating and engaged. She does wear them in one looser class (where the kids are probably crazier because the teacher's laid back).
- one mentioned she self-advocated!!! MIND BLOWN, she's usually scared to Talk To People
- one explained that when she checked on her day after a freakout, meg said ' oh ms p, you don't understand, i just cry a lot.'
So I'm getting the impression of a sensitive kid, sure, but one who - after she panics - calms down, gets her shit together and goes on with her day. She's shy, but brave enough to be the first kid to answer a science question (esp when she's like, i can't believe you guys don't remember this).
I hear her own perspective, which she may inflate or exaggerate for expression's sake, and so sometimes I think her struggles are exactly what she says they are when in reality she's doing a lot better and is more competent than she realizes. For heck's sake she's not even 12 yet.
