cookie adventures thus far
Dec. 17th, 2024 08:08 amLast week, I made one batch of cookies from a mix and all 4 of us decorated and meg's artistic soul was upset about how ty and dad and i just made lame smiley face designs and scribbles. (She was In A State that day anyway.)
I ended up going to the work meeting in concord and then driving straight down to providence for the party - a solo getaway! a retreat! the hotel room was ok but smelled like damp air conditioner. Plus the heat was turned off in my room. And if I had planned accordingly I coulda had a lady sleepover with my other internet friends, but hotel was fine. Note - the breakfast lady spoke spanish, english, farsi (i think) and ASL! she was so sweet. Then I went to five below and starbucks and headed home. then took meg back out again to go to keene to get 'ingredients' for crafting. we're making ty's characters as plushies and needed specific colors of felt. First one turned out great, second one turned out very hilariously bad but cute. So that was Friday/Saturday.
I'll write about the party elsewhere, it was a delight, but I'm establishing that Meg was superbored on Sunday and I needed a day at home and she was. all I JUST WANNA DO SOMETHING CAN WE BAKE COOKIES.
I had picked up a pack of Yoga Reindeer cookie mix when I was at Five Below, and realized I didn't have the energy to actually bake and roll them, nor was my butter Room Temperature. I can handle drop tablespoons, not refrigerating and rolling and cutting.
And I'm exhausted and really trying not to kowtow and entertain her every time, but we got this far:
Milano Cookies are a great surface for decorating!! Opened the pack, laid em out with the icing, and said 'go nuts, kid' and she made pretty things.
I also bought myself a book about how to legit make pretty cookies, and many of the ingredients to do this thing (missing the cream-cheese, the secret ingredient in the cookie dough), but NO ENERGY.
This week I have 2 holiday events: Work and Rotary. For work I'm bringing a veggie stew - probably west african peanut? - and my gift is a cutting board/cheese wrap/bamboo knife set. For rotary i got a charlie harper calendar, plus a birdfeeder & suet.
