Mar. 16th, 2023 07:51 am Chocolate Strawberry K-cups were on sale for leftover Valentines merch, so I am gulping a Chocolate Strawberry Coffee with Hazelnut creamer, and I am not ashamed!
There are no Coffee Shops on my commute anymore, not even Dunkin, but I can go out of my way a lil bit and get really nice flavored coffee with half & half from the town market, or if I'm working in the evening I can justify the 20 minute drive to one of our towns to the gourmet chocolatier who has lattes and french desserts , or the coffee shop co-op with art and pastry, or the store that's been open since literally 1860s (and the options are SOMETIMES fresh baked scones, coffee, soda, chips, the usual corner-store-bodega fare). So yeah. We don't have many Actual Coffee Shops around here but they do exist and are all the more precious for their scarcity.
That's what I get for moving to the middle of nowhere though!
I am a tired bean, though, hence the guzzling. I'm a lucky one too because we had two consecutive snow days; we had about 18 more inches of snow in one day and then a ton of wind (and resulting power outages and branches in roads). (I said 'limbs in roads' and that was gory!). So we had: monday the 13th, snow day, snow day, and today. Time change is still registering with me, therefore. It's weird to eat dinner in daylight again!
The first snow day seemed precious, as well, so it was a little tense and I hid for a bit, but then I heard mom & meg having a lovely chat, which absolutely relaxed me. It wasn't "Entertain Me" from either of them. And! I had a good book, and for a while Ty was using me as a pillow, which was lovely.
Second snow day was pretty unexpected, I had one zoom, and by now I understand that I really don't have to work on snowdays because they just tack it on to the end of the year (June) to make up for it. The zoom was worth going to and it was easy. I popped in on another around lunchtime (my leadership group) and then my therapist around 4:30. In between, I cooked stuff (terrible tapioca, the eggs scrambled - and too many Blah waffles in the waffleiron), napped, read The House Witch, hung out with the kids while they did stuff.
Therapy was good yesterday. One thing we talked about was roots; a little about intergenerational stuff. I am willing to explore that more. It's a good time to think about Irish Heritage anyway!
I wonder why so may exclamation points this morning, maybe I'm trying to force out some energy.
Ok one more thing. I signed up for a couch-to-5k program; I did a 5k in like 2011? Maybe one in 2018? And I have exciting, related news:
Dan fixed the treadmill, you guys! He figured out that it doesn't have a speed sensor - it had been calibrated at the factory, and something happened to reset the thing, so it didn't start the motor till you said 1.5 mph. So that's a bit of a safety issue, but he did something with wiring (and used one of my old kid-electricity-project wires ) and connected it to an old bicycle speed sensor and now it's working again! It's in the 'floating room' which is cold/under construction but that's great for being on a treadmill. And I USED it on Tues.
Things I'm reading:
The House Witch (it's listed as a 'humorous romance,' and it is: fairly well written, and I like the idea of a hearth witch, especially one that's a guy.)
Roadkill (audiobook - fun snarky spaceship thing, by-for-and-about Trek lovers). Ok I really have to get some work done.
