my hippie self...
Aug. 19th, 2019 08:32 amso, i'm working through all this mental/emotional/spiritual crud and it feels like wading through jello with my eyes closed.
i made it a couple of feet this weekend tho bc my mom & brother and I did an Art Booth at a festival selling a book of my dad's poems that they published (plus also random cards & bookmarks & stuff quoting my dad that i made. i figured a plank with a poetry quote would be better than a Live laugh Love! plank.) I helped with things like: additional artworks as aforementioned, bringing the tent & table, decor for booth (tassel garlands, tablecloth, bookstands, signage). we sold only about $31 of stuff (and gave away 13 to people we knew) and spent way more lol. Especially the 'we did it yay' celebration dinner. but that was an emotional Thing for real.
It's funny, my mom's never hosted a Booth at a Thing before and she knew it was tiring but now she KNOWS it's tiring. From the smiling and talking to people and setup and stuff. My brother pulled a muscle. They said 'of all the people who stopped at our booth you knew half of them' and that is true.
So, it might be nice to Not Know Everyone for a while.
And I told my mom that i did it, i sent a Yes email to the museum people. She didn't know i decided. She is processing & ok about it. I also talked to the kids a lil bit about moving. Meg's like ADVENTURE! and Ty's cautiously like 'can we keep my bedroom the same color? and the house in the same kind of layout?' but they also like the idea of a swimming pool or loop-de-loop in the house or working fireplace. Ty is scared of change but he also works hard at his positive attitude. I was going to say 'is naturally optimistic' but then i remembered he told me he decided to change his personality to be happier and i think that's what he means - like me, he makes a choice to be positive. What i'm saying is, that skill means even if it's hard to move, and it will be, he will be okay.
prep we've done:
a) list of 11 houses in a spreadhseet with groupings of how much we like them, and columsn like taxes, schools, cost, bedrooms, acres, room for my mom, and comments.
b) set a meeting with my Money Guy today and started a conversation with my local realtor friend re: our house. I have a friend who might be willing/able to buy it.
c) scheduled our Houses Visit for labor day weekend (with rental house, airfare, realtor, and future bosses hosting us for a bbq)
d) researched the school districts online for 4-5 districts (only so much you can discover online and ultimately it comes down to culture & individual teachers)
e) girlfriends scheduled a farewell party
stuff we are going to do:
a) get a dumpster
b) get a pods (maybe)
c) talk to kids' current schools
d) officially notify my board (some of them know unofficially)
there's a lot more. continued deep breaths are going to be a GOOD THING.
lastly,
i'm sort of looking at this as a sabbatical but without an end date. IDK.
