The local movie theater had the new Wicked movie at 6:45 on Wednesday night, so I grabbed The Meg and we went for it. No real reason not to other than we'd be out kind of late because its' a long movie. AND because we went to the gym together on Tuesday night and she actually kind of loved it.
Going to the gym is SO DIFFERENT from gym class. At 'the gym', people pay to be there, and want to be there, and basically everyone does their own darn thing. Self-conscious tweenager detected this and honestly probably needs to expend all her energy anyhow. And listen to her tunes. My routine, which I am only telling you about in a diary sort of way is: treadmill for 15 minutes give or take, then use whatever weight machines I feel like using for a while, then do treadmill again. And since i freaking hate the Itchies, I usually just walk briskly, uphill maybe. Sometimes I see if there's any of the other weird equipment I know how to use like bosu ball (i only kind of know). Meg and I tossed the 8 lb ball a couple times. That's it.
Maybe I'll try to do more, but I want both Meg and I to enjoy it enough to do it again, so we're starting small. It doesn't have to be a Whole Thing because that creates mental road blocks.
Now let's talk about wicked!
- I was hoping to like Ariana Grande, but I didn't want to like her as much as i did! OMG, she was fantastic. So funny, but also so very possible. I hope people understand that Glinda, who is so pleased with herself, is kind of awful, even though she really cares about elphaba. I loved to kind of hate her.
- I thought Fiyero was kind of old for them, but also his physicality - not just dance but including that - made me forget his face was way more lined than the other characters. Glinda's movements as well were just so right, and silly, and prim but flirty.
- There was a part when meg said 'i hate this i hate this' and it's a kind of dark scene, but that gets better in about 5 minutes. I agree with her.
- the people behind us talked too much, including shaming the coughing kid up front (but like, we were in the back, so they weren't gonna get sick nor was kid necessarily going to hear, but that sucked) and burping out loud. But they smelled nice.
- I want posters of Oz with no characters in it.

Oh oh oh! I forgot to talk about how 'prescient' it is, i think that's the right word. The book came out in 2004, the show came out not that long ago - and my goodness, the 'find a good enemy to unite people and solidify your fanbase/power' theme, of a showman of a wizard, is well. I just wonder how impactful this would be if Kamala had been elected because a lot of it was a little painful, in a good way, in a calling it out way.
