Jul. 24th, 2024 02:05 pm Today's observation is:
Keeping your files (digital or physical) organized is a public service that helps not just you, but your coworkers.
---
The lady who did grants last year and also managed homeless student population as part of that (because it's grant funded) let herself get buried in paperwork. The same thing happened to my mom - just so buried it became impossible to do anything about it.
We've had to pay someone for about at least 60 hours of work to get it all sorted out (a summer kind of task).
Meanwhile I'm ...not exactly in a holding pattern, but trying to do work that will have value no matter what ends up happening or what priorities people end up with. As they were dealing with her office full of boxes and stacks, I had to file a specific set of records(the portion I manage) in a way that will not only make sense to me but to another theoretical person. Just in case. So I did that, and yesterday plowed through that section of digital records making sure that those make sense (instead of one giant pile).
I may be messy and a bit flighty but I am, in fact, capable of being organized.
So. That's my point. Sometimes I'd be running around so much I'd never stop to file or organize and then later I'd be in a tizzy and that would be the cue - you can't get anything done with things in the state they're in, so fix it.
-----
In related news! One reason they were cleaning out the office was so that someone could use it, and that someone is me! I now am in my Office with a Window and functional desk and filing cabinets! I was also informed that even if I make a job-title-change, that this makes sense for me, in that role. Phew!
Physical comfort is real, yo.
