it is friday, thank goodness, and I am a tired bean.

I have good news to write about - meg's mental health is better.  she might have PMDD, because she has serious depression right before 'shark week.'  shark week is more reliable than it used to be, but she doesn't track it and sometimes she forgets to take her medicines. she doesn't like taking birth control and has a hard time explaining why, but she's 11, so i kind of get it.

she's on it because she already had the extreme depression and mood swings, and I think the medicines she's on help a lot, but i tried to tell her, there are like a hundred different brands of birth control.

she's bounced back so much, it's fantastic.

This week, in related news,  i kind of explored the FAQs of crisis text line and 988 and helped husband understand a misconception or two.  Husband is like, she can't expect you to drop everything to listen to her all the time, and it's burning you out.  I'm like, true facts, but she's in dark places and needs SOMEONE to talk to, and I'll draw boundaries about when I'm available but she'll need someone else she can text in an emergency.

PSA:

if a kid contacts either one, the police, principal, or dcyf don't find out and Eye-of-Sauron you.  Also, even if they did? In our case, our kid is SEEING a therapist, taking medicine, is safe and fed, and anything else we should be doing for her depression would be wonderful to find out about.  Also, they have much bigger fish to fry re: childrens' safety, frankly.   I don't FULLY understand or trust the system, but I know a little bit about how it works and the things that trigger reports & actions.  Not only that, but what would they do? it's not even serious enough for hospitalization and even if it were there aren't enough MH beds statewide so that wouldn't happen either.

Hey guess what! I appear to have healed from my own DCYF trauma! yay

the other misconception with crisis text line (741741) and 988 is that it's a 'last resort' and that's kinda ... idk, husband, but I think our circumstances are kind of what it's FOR.  In fact the FAQ of CTL expressly said 'loneliness, anxiety, depression, eating disorder,' 'in need of someone to talk to.' You don't have to be on the bridge about to jump.
