Was recently reminded that the kids have a week off in February. Far out, I say, but then was asked if I'm taking that week off like the rest of central office?

Um, I don't know if I can? My boss wants me to have the central office schedule but my literal contract is for school year, and we 'need to get me a new contract' is what we've been saying since september, .... and I literally have '2' personal days as a school year employee but also as a school year employee am supposed to be 'off, but unpaid' that week.

They also told me there's no control system for our 'request time off' system so I could overdraw my vacation days and nothing would happen. Neat.

---
So I THINK that means I should plan on 'Not Working" that week. Which means...
"Hey mother in law, will you be home in Florida that week?"
"Yes do you want us to find you a place to stay"
"let me check with husband about the trip, wanted to see if you would be there first"
looks up flights
1500 for 4 people (total) on breeze. That's a lot of money, but also, that's what vacations cost, and literally I want a) a family trip to see grandparent in florida b) palm trees c) ocean.

Tells husband
"Florida? Gross."
Kids chime in: "They have HURRICANES there!"
husband: "And Ron DeSantises!"
Actually he's probably here right now but who knows where he'll be in a month.

He made me laugh, but
"Come on, dan, let's go see your mom and dad and some palm trees."
"Deeeeeep sigh"
"You're so dramatic. Nobody would expect this from you, Mr. Deadpan"
"I'm only halfway serious"

Another track:
"Kids don't you want to see your other grandparents, palm trees, ocean, and lizards"
"no thank you, I'm fine"
---
So that's the struggle. omg.

I'll keep you updated. There is a side quest to this particular story:
"Dan, can we adopt a greyhound?"
"I'd rather do that than go to Florida."
"SOLD"
....
So....yeah. We are PROBABLY not getting a dog, but I did tell Ty when he works at the humane society for school if he makes a cat or dog best friend to let us know. I'm kind of daydreaming about a pet that wants as much snuggles as we want to give it, that might help our spirits, you know? In my case, I have some caregiver fatigue so a pet might not help, but it might be different.
