Jan. 11th, 2024 01:18 pmStill feeling a little lousy and burned out, and I think I'm getting a sick of some kind too (that inexplicable dehydration, dry lips, dry throat, and 'feeling sensitive' are the clues I get).
Every now and then I remember Monday is a day off!
Here's an epiphany I need to put into words, a leveling up if you will. Part of the stress of this whole Situation At Work over the last couple weeks is like this: "I'm new, and I'm gonna screw up and we're gonna get sued and it'll be all my fault." Here's the thing, dudes. I MAY screw up. we MAY get sued. It MAY be my fault. These are possibilities but not probabilities. What I need to remember is ...
1. Document what I did.
2. Sticky legal situations are not just complex for me because I'm new. They're complex. it's not a thing that 'everyone knows but me.' Some people have more experience in it, sure, but each situation is new anyway.
3. Work through the worst case scenario on this ... what if we did get sued? What then? In all honesty it happens more frequently than I realize, and it is not the end of the world, or my job, or anything like that. This is the important part that I needed to think about.
Like with transportation: there's a problem we're not able to solve, and it's resulting in someone's rights not being met, but we're literally not able to do it. So if we do get sued, it just calls attention to the fact that we don't have the staff. That's where documenting efforts is the saving grace, then you shrug and call it a day before you burn yourself out.
4. On those lines. What if i did lose my job? it's not that likely, first of all, and second of all, I could find another.
