a lot going on but also not
May. 25th, 2023 08:25 amYou know the metaphor about a duck swimming serenely but paddling madly under the surface? Flip that duck upside down and that's where I am. Nothing MAJOR is changing or happening except continued work on m'self in therapy and thru journaling. (That's the duck body - nothin major).
Meanwhile the paddling - the frantic activity - is dumb shit like - dentist appointments, brakes, sick kid/drama kid/work kid, trying to pathfind for the job, playing TOTK.

I do want to share a couple things about that.
I felt a little bit more of a holistic human (pardon the redundancy here) instead of having to split to my work hat and mom hat by the end of the day yesterday. Like, me navigating services for my family also serves my work through the simple "how can i help other families like mine?" And 'what have I learned about this program or service that maybe other people should know?'
And I came up with a good tagline for my job, and it's 'discovering and connecting resources and needs.' In practice, I can do that at the micro level (through family case management) , mini (school programs), or through macro (systems change by participating in bigger initiatives). Sometimes I get scared about the Macro stuff, like 'am I in my lane?' but usually something Immediately Useful comes out of that so I'm going to continue to trust myself here. And if it turns out to be a waste of time, that's research done.
a pretty positive meeting with the VR Lady. VR helps people of all ages who have disabilities get employment and I'm pretty sure every state has one. I didn't realize they can also help with college tuition sometimes! We're getting closer toward an Employment Plan for t, - he is probably graduating in 2 years. I am getting more comfortable with that.
And IDK if I mentioned that I talked to the state disability rights council to make sure I know what to expect (and to get my knowledge armor) and the area agency about disability services. The thing with kiddo is that his extra needs are moderate, but they exist, and help is welcome.
