general ouch
May. 22nd, 2023 07:59 amHey I participated in a 5k on saturday except that I walked and didn't try very hard and was keeping a high school kid company who was really struggling so I came in literally last place (I don't get it, I was pulling the student along at the finish line), but hey, i did the thing! Somebody has to be last after all!
And, indeed, am a bit sore. I didn't push my speed, and at one point i wore kiddo's backpack, so i was moseying on purpose, but i still don't walk 3 miles on the regular.
And THEN. Did breakfast with some cool ladies -- get this - a farmer's market/plant nursery with coffee and breakfasts like eggs benedict! or omelettes.
the girls also grabbed plants so I was like 'twist my arm.' I'm almost full up on plants but I still grabbed a ton of annuals.
I made an underwater themed pot (a succulent that looks like a sea creature, ocean reef colueus, and a drippy portulaca that looks like seaweed).
Added portulacas to the zone by mom's window that has an overhang (usuallly dry). Did red& white verbenas and purple/yellow johnny jumpup in bed that's lost its way. (The downside of doing seeds - which of these things are weeds? that rhymed)
And I got some tall rubbery things that start with an L that I thought were false indigo but people were talking about how pretty they get and how expensive they were elsewhere and what a good deal this is. Lisianthus? Anyway that's going by the mailbox.
It rained a ton on Saturday after the race, so dan and i did more wildflower seeding before it started, and here's hoping. Next year I'll get perennial wildflower mix - i have some great shasta daisies and lupines from where I did them the first year.
Anyway when I was doing the verbenas etc, that little garden has a rock border that's been nearly covered up by grass and moss so I was pulling that back and lifting up the 3 lb rocks and I mostly used my trowel but also my hands and beat my hands up a bit. A bruise there, hurt my fingernail there, little cuts. And then I did some more stupid gardening later and then wanted to make sure i got the dirt out-from-under the injured nail so I traumatized that son of a bitch and it hurts to type yet here i am.

also. The pool is both ready and also extremely cold. but! the passive solar heater is installed and dan said it's working; it goes like this: it's a black washboard shape and the water passes through each little ridge and is exposed to the warmed heater sunlight before going back to the pool. We get cold nights but we get a lot of great sunlight.

Anyway dan and meg jumped in.

today, nobody feels great. I don't think the pool has anything to do with it, other than meg's sunburned cheeks. we have sore throats, a bit of congestion. I think there are colds going around AND pollen, so who knows. I'll admit to having a sore throat myself.
